The School Climate

The National School Climate Center (NSCC) defines school climate as the quality and character of school life. School climate is based on patterns of students, parents, and school personnel’s experience of school life; it also reflects norms, goals, values, interpersonal relationships, teaching and learning practices, and organizational structures. Teachers College Press Highlights the different challenges of teaching, the effectiveness of standardized tests in the education environment, and the importance of accommodating students to grow and reach their fullest potential.

According to Hoy (1998), an open school climate cannot happen overnight. It should be the outcome of well-thought-out development engineering implemented between teachers and school principals. It is also the outcome of robust hiring policies, which should be characterized by good personality instruments. Education in Guyana has transformed greatly in the development of economic demands. At present, the levels of the education system in Guyana are organized into several levels, including nursery, primary, secondary, and tertiary education. Students are catered for with the necessary knowledge and skills to contribute effectively to society through the delivery of quality education.

The greatest challenge for teachers in today’s educational environment is facilitating standardized testing and impactful curricula with the need to provide an overall, student-centered education. Teachers are more often faces demands, and the ability to address students' individual needs, emotional well-being, and diverse learning styles.
